Austin, Texas is probably our favorite place we’ve ever been in the United States. There is so much about Austin that puts it at the top of our list — It has the most amazing vegan food we’ve ever eaten, it’s progressive & welcoming (especially for being in the South), it has the cutest shops & thrift stores, and there is nature right outside the city. It is the capital of Texas but more importantly, the vibe of Austin is really charming and cool. It’s something that we can’t truly explain, but Austin feels like the kind of place where everyone can be themselves and not be judged. Read on to see our favorite things to do when visiting Austin, Texas!

Where to Stay in Austin

When you’re deciding where to stay in Austin we recommend East Austin or the South Congress area. The areas closer to downtown can get a little dicey so we don’t recommend staying there. We stayed in a vacation rental in East Austin & absolutely loved it! We were super close to a bunch of bars and restaurants we wanted to go to and we felt safe walking everywhere.

One thing to note about Austin is that it has a huge food truck scene! A lot of the restaurants are food trucks that can be found in ‘food truck parks’ along with a bunch of other food trucks as well. A lot of food trucks will have bars connected to them as well. We loved this vibe and thought it was super fun to sit on the benches in the food truck park with our food & beers and just hang out! Austin also has TONS of vegan food & the best vegan food we’ve probably ever had.

  • Lick It Up & The Grackle (Lick It Up is a food truck that is connected to a bar called The Grackle! This was by far our favorite place to eat & drink in Austin)

  • Arlo’s

  • Bone-a-fide Vegan

  • The Vegan Nom

  • Conscious Cravings

  • Whistler’s (for amazing cocktails)

  • Jo’s Coffee

  • SunLife Organics Cafe

  • Voodoo Donuts
