We like to think of ourselves as Curaçao experts. After being here almost 30 times combined, we have so much to say about this little island and so much love for it as well. One of our favorite activities in Curaçao is a day trip to Klein Curaçao. Klein Curaçao in an uninhabited island that literally translates to “small Curaçao”. It’s tiny, only about 0.6 square miles in size and about 15 miles off the coast of Curaçao. The island may be small but the water is blue as can be, there’s tons of ocean life, and even a ship wreck!

How to get to Klein Curaçao

Klein Curaçao is only accessible by boat. There are a lot of different tour companies that offer different options but we went with Mermaid Boat Trips and had the best experience ever. It’s pricey, about $100 per person, but it is so, so worth the money. With Mermaid Boat Trips you spend the whole day on there — they give you lunch on the island, and you have access to the beach huts on the island as well. We will say the day we went to Klein Curaçao the sea was super rough so a lot of people got seasick, including Shanna haha. So make sure if you know you get seasick to bring something with you to help just in case!

What to do while you’re there

  • Explore the lighthouse

  • Visit the shipwreck

  • Go swimming & snorkeling

As we said earlier, the island is very small. You can walk the whole thing in an hour or so and there isn’t a lot to see. On one side of the island is the lighthouse and an old ship wreck, and the other side of the island is where you can swim & snorkel and see lots of sea creatures. There are a lot of sea turtles in Klein Curaçao because they come back each year to breed so the chances of you seeing a sea turtle here, in their natural environment, are very high. We saw one when we visited and it was the coolest thing ever!

Why you Should Go

What makes Klein Curaçao so beautiful is how pristine and untouched the beach is. Because it’s uninhabited, there isn’t any trash and there are never a lot of people (it’s only the people who came on the boat with you) which makes it truly feel like you’re in paradise. The water is so clear and blue that you can see every fish that swims by. Klein Curaçao is one of our favorite day trips we’ve ever done and we could not tell you enough how much to need to see this island. It’s a stunning, unique place and we’ve never experienced anything like it before or since.
