10 Best Things to do in Fort Worth, Texas

Fort Worth was one of those cities that really surprised us. There is such a cool and trendy old west vibe to the city, and Fort Worth has owned the things about them that make them unique — like their daily cattle drive, the world’s biggest honkey tonk, and even their nickname Panther City. We had such a good time exploring the city of Forth Worth and all the nature that surrounds it. Read on to see what we did during our time there!

Where to Stay in Forth Worth

There are 2 areas we recommend staying in when visiting Fort Worth. You can stay in the Stockyards, which is a newer more up & coming area, or you can stay downtown. For the Stockyards you’ll want to stay at Hotel Drover, which is probably the nicest hotel we have ever stayed in. The decor has a trendy, western vibe and they have a beautiful pool in the back. We loved this hotel so much we did not want to leave! The Stockyards also have a few bars, restaurants, and shops nearby (as well as the daily cattle drive) so there is a lot to do in that area!

The next hotel we stayed in was downtown and we stayed at The Sinclair. The Sinclair had a 1920s Great Gatsby vibe throughout the entire hotel, but our favorite part was the view from the rooftop bar. You could see all of Fort Worth & beyond. The Sinclair is walkable to other shops, restaurants, and bars in the downtown area and we think both parts of Forth Worth are worth exploring!

How to Get Around Fort Worth

Uber works there, but we would recommend renting a car. Sometimes we would have to wait 20-30 minutes for an Uber to come pick us up, so renting a car is definitely a better option. Fort Worth is walkable once you are in a particular area, but it’s hard to walk between the different neighborhoods so renting a car is the best way to go. We love renting cars with Expedia because they are trustworthy, easy to book, and we have never had an issue when we’ve used them!

The LGBTQ+ Scene in Fort Worth

As a lesbian couple, we felt very safe in Fort Worth. While Texas might not be the most accepting state of LGBTQ+ rights, Fort Worth as a city definitely is. The have a high score on the municipality index and we went to a few queer owned businesses during our trip. We even saw pride flags waving around in certain areas.!We did pass one LGBTQ+ bar but it didn’t look open, but it could have been the time we were there. Definitely don’t skip out on Fort Worth simple because it’s in Texas, it will surprise you just like it surprised us!
