The Perfect Weekend Getaway to Miami! | Things To Do in Miami + Miami Beach

Miami is one of our favorite cities in the USA, and whenever we get a chance to go back we always jump on the opportunity! This was our 3rd time visiting Miami together and as always, we had such an amazing time. Miami has everything you want in a vacation: perfect weather, fun things to do, great food, and epic vibes. Each time we visit Miami we find new and different things to do and that’s one of the reasons why we love this city so much! There is always something going on and you know you will always have a great time. We were invited by Visit Miami on this trip and we’re so excited to share with y’all everything we got up to!

Where to Stay in Miami

The Palms Hotel & Spa

The Palms Hotel & Spa

This trip we stayed at The Palms Hotel & Spa on Miami Beach and loved it so much! It was in a great location on Miami Beach, close to everything we wanted to do. We also loved that the hotel has it’s own private area of the beach! You could grab a chair and hang out for as long as you wanted. The property was also gorgeous with palm trees galore, beach bars, pools, & more. We loved our stay at The Palms and would definitely stay here again when visiting Miami.

How to Get Around Miami

We did a combo of walking and Ubers/Lyfts to get around Miami. But one of our activities this trip was going to a Miami Dolphins game at Hard Rock Stadium and to get there we took the Brightline train. We had such an amazing experience on the Brightline. It was so easy to navigate, really clean, and very efficient. We took the Brightline to Adventura Station and then took the free shuttle to the stadium. It was so easy and convenient for us, but it also goes all the way to Orlando (with stops along the way at Fort Lauderdale, West Palm, etc.) if you’re looking for another way to get around southern Florida.

Best Things to Do in Miami

Vizcaya Museum & Gardens

Miami Beach

South Pointe Park

Hard Rock Stadium

  • Check out the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens - The former early 1900s estate of businessman James Deering, that is now a historic landmark. The villa itself is beautiful and has amazing art collection. The gardens are also stunning and magical and you really get a sense of what it was like to be in Miami during that time period. Tickets are $25 pp.

  • Go to a Miami Sports Game! - Even though we are New Yorkers, we are both huge Miami Dolphins fans, so the highlight of our trip was getting to go to a Miami Dolphins home game! It had been years since we had attending a Dolphins game at Hard Rock Stadium, and we had the most amazing time. We always feel like going to a sports game is such a great way to see a city truly come alive, and that’s exactly how we felt at the Miami Dolphins game! It was so much fun and a memory we will never forget. If you aren’t visiting during football season, you can also see Miami Heat, Marlins, or Panthers games during your trip!

  • Explore South Pointe Park - One of our favorite things to do in Miami Beach! The park is the southern most part of Miami and is filled with palm trees. It sits along the water so it’s a great place to chill and hang out, walk around, or you can also bike there if you want.

  • Spend some time at Miami Beach - our favorite thing to do whenever we visit Miami! Miami beach is 9 miles long, and you will definitely see the colorful lifeguard houses about every block or so which are great for photos. You won’t see locals on the beach in the winter, but if you are from the Northeast like us, it feels amazing haha.

The LGBTQ+ Scene in Miami

Nathan’s Beach Club

Miami has a lively, welcoming, and inclusive LGBTQ+ scene. We always feel like we can be ourselves in Miami, and we love how many other queer people & couples we see around the city. We went to Nathan’s Beach Club this trip which is a local gay bar that is accepting of everyone. Miami Beach also has a rainbow crosswalk on 12th Street and Ocean Drive that was dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community of Miami in 2018.
