Provincetown is definitely the most LGBTQ+ friendly place we’ve ever been. The second you cross the town line, you immediately notice pride flags, inclusive signs, and rainbows galore. It’s one of those places where you feel welcome the second you arrive. We found out that the reason why Provincetown (or PTown as it’s commonly called) is an LGBTQ+ mecca is because after the Stonewall riots in 1969, PTown decided to actually market to the Queer community as as place they could come visit and be themselves. At that time marketing to the LGBTQ+ community was never done before, and it has since been exactly that — a place where anyone can come and be themselves. The Drag scene in the USA was also started in Provincetown which just adds another layer onto its LGBTQ+ history.

While Provincetown may be known as a place for gay men to party, all members of the LGBTQ+ community are welcome here. We saw tons of same sex couples from all different genders & gender expressions walking around holding hands — which made us as a lesbian couple feel extremely safe. A lot of PTown Guides tend to favor gay men, so we wanted to add some lesbian flair to ours. Read on to see our full Lesbian Guide to Provincetown!

How to Get to Provincetown

PTown is located at the tip of the cape in Massachusetts. From NYC it’s about a 5 hour drive, but you can also fly, bus, or train into Boston and then take the ferry. Provincetown is extremely walkable, so you won’t need a car to get around. It’s also very hard to find parking on the PTown streets so your best bet is to find an accommodation with parking and leave your car there all weekend. That’s what we did and it worked out perfectly!

Where to Stay in Provincetown

We stayed at the Rose & Crown which is the cutest Lesbian owned B&B! We got to meet the owner Ann who said her & her wife Laura have owned the guest house for years and always wanted it to be a safe place for people to come stay. The Rose & Crown is in the perfect location to walk anywhere you want to go in Provincetown and they had a small parking lot where you could park your car. There weren’t a ton of spots so make sure you ask if there is parking available when you go. We love supporting local LGBTQ+ businesses whenever we can, and the Rose & Crown did not disappoint!
