We took a weekend trip to Bermuda from NYC and were shocked at just how close it was! In a less than two hour flight, we traded skyscrapers for pink sand beaches and turquoise waters — it truly felt like stepping into a tropical paradise. Bermuda is located in the North Atlantic Ocean, only about 650 miles off the coast of North Carolina. While many people mistake it for being part of the Caribbean, it’s actually not. Since it’s a completely isolated island, things in Bermuda tend to be pretty expensive, but that’s why we think it’s perfect for a short trip. During our vacation we stayed at the iconic millennial pink Hamilton Princess and it ended up being one of our favorite hotel experiences yet!

How to Get Around Bermuda

Bermuda has very specific rental car rules, and you can only rent two-person electric microcars if you are a visitor. Traditional cars are not permitted for tourist rental. Luckily the Hamilton Princess has lots of transportation options available at the hotel.

We took a taxi to/from the airport to the hotel, and the hotel will call you a taxi if you need! But we noticed a lot of taxis hanging out in the entrance of the hotel as well. You can also walk to the town of Hamilton from the Hamilton Princess, it was about a 10-15 minute walk.

The other option is to rent a Twizy right from the Hamilton Princess! A Twizy is a two person electric car that you can take on your own to explore the island. We didn’t have time to rent one on our trip, but we liked how easy it was to do right from the hotel!

We stayed in a double room in the newly renovated Bermudian Wing at the Hamilton Princess and it was such a nice experience! We loved the new and modern touches and really enjoyed the Le Labo products in the bathroom. Our room had a balcony that overlooked the infinity pool.

The best thing about the Hamilton Princess is all the amenities you have access to when you stay there. On site there is an infinity pool, an adults only pool, 4 restaurants, as well as a spa and luxury shopping. You can also book excursions through the Hamilton Princess and get picked up or leave right from the marina!

The hotel also has a beach club about 20 minutes away on the coast. You can get there via the hotel’s free jitney service that leaves and returns at certain times of the day. At the beach club there is also a restaurant (with some dinner dining options as well), the famous pink tennis/pickleball court and gorgeous rock pools about a 15 minute walk on the property. At the beach club you can also rent paddle boards and kayaks for free.

As we said, there are a bunch of restaurants you can eat at on the property. There is also a Fairmont Gold Executive Lounge for hotel guests who would like that service. We were Fairmont Gold during our stay which meant we got private check in and check out, free continental breakfast every morning, as well as complimentary coffee or tea every day along with other special touches in the lounge like afternoon tea and dessert. Here are the restaurants we tried on property:

  • 16O9 - open air restaurant and bar that overlooks the marina. They have an iconic cocktail inside of a fish bowl as well as some vegan options like tacos or a beyond burger on the menu.

  • Crown & Anchor - more of a classic cafe vibe. We came here for lunch and ordered some salad. They have have breakfast here as well.

  • Princess Beach Club Kitchen - here we had an all you can eat barbecue dinner on the beach! It was amazing to eat in the sand and watch the sunset. You can also order/eat here if you are on the beach during the day

  • The Duchess Cafe & Gelateria - good for coffee, milkshakes, or grab and go food/snacks.

We also tried some dining options in Hamilton, outside of the hotel as well. We’ll leave our favorites below:

  • Clarabell’s - delicious wood-fired pizza!

  • Devil’s Isle Cafe - cute local cafe with great coffee, sandwiches, and salad

  • Bagels & Brews - for breakfast/coffee

  • The Front Yard - for drinks

  • l’Artisan Boulangerie - for coffee, pastries & more

We had such an amazing stay at the Hamilton Princess and we would definitely stay there again if we ever go back. And we would definitely recommend this hotel if you want to have a luxurious experience during your trip to Bermuda. We would have loved to explore more of the island on this trip, but since we went for a relaxing weekend, we simply didn’t get the time. That just means we will have to plan another trip back soon!
